ARTS AND CULTURE

Artwork from “Hauora - A Matariki Exhibition” by Pip Lewis.

How do you see, experience and value arts, culture and creativity in our city?

Art and culture are a big part of the community and unfortunately seem to be the easiest to leave behind in tough times, often just when people need the distraction from 'real life' that the arts provide us all. As owner of Luxe Cinemas in the Tauranga CBD and Luxe Cinemas Papamoa I have a direct investment in Tauranga arts scene and if elected I will certainly be a strong advocate for arts on council.

When did you last attend a creative art or cultural event such as an exhibition, film, concert, festival? What was it?

Last Sunday I viewed the Robertson Gift exhibition at Toi O Tamaki in Auckland. An outstanding legacy donated to the people of New Zealand by the Robertson Family. Included were works by Picasso, Dali and Monet among others.

How will you ensure our local community and creative sector thrive?

If elected I will become an unashamedly biased advocate for the creative sector. I see arts and culture as integral the the CBD revitalisation that will come about during the next 4-8 years.

These questions were put together by The Incubator Creative Hub - a fantastic organisation supporting the arts in Tauranga. For more information about The Incubator, click here.
